WANL membership

WANL connects its members to the world of writing by offering professional development workshops, by keeping members informed of writing opportunities as they arise, and by providing advice and information on various issues of interest to writers, including manuscript preparation, copyright, contracts, marketing, and promotion.

Benefits for Regular Members

  • A copy of the special edition of Riddle Fence (while quantities last);
  • WORD, a quarterly newsletter that includes articles on literary topics and up-to-date information on writers' markets, contests, grants, local literary events, and members' news;
  • WANL Weekly, a weekly email newsletter listing all upcoming literary events in the province;
  • Website with a list of upcoming events, members' directory and profile pages, links, and more;
  • Listings in WANL Weekly, in WORD and on our website;
  • Information and advice on contracts, how to prepare and submit a manuscript, how to successfully launch your book, and more;
  • Access to our programs and services, such as our Manuscript Evaluation Service and our Emerging Writers Mentorship Program;
  • A publicity network for members' publications and other achievements;
  • Access to WANL's Resource Room containing books of poetry, fiction and non-fiction, along with the latest issues of literary magazines and newsletters;
  • A free copy of WANL's Resources for Writers handbook (new edition forthcoming).
Regular membership is $45 annually (or $25 for students, retirees, and unemployed persons).

Benefits for Youth Members (age 17 and under)

  • WORD, a quarterly newsletter that includes articles on literary topics and up-to-date information on writers' markets, contests, grants, local literary events, and members' news;
  • WANL Weekly, a weekly email newsletter listing all upcoming literary events in the province;

  • Website with a list of upcoming events and a youth page;
  • Access to WANL's Resource Room containing books of poetry, fiction and non-fiction, along with the latest issues of literary magazines and newsletters;
  • A free copy of WANL's Resources for Writers handbook.
Youth aged 17 and under receive free membership. (Youth members do not have voting privileges.)

Benefits for Friends

  • A copy of the special edition of Riddle Fence;
  • WANL Weekly, a weekly email newsletter listing all upcoming literary events in the province;
  • WORD, a quarterly newsletter that includes articles on literary topics and up-to-date information on writers' markets, contests, grants, local literary events, and members' news.
Friends membership is $25 a year.
WANL has an open door policy. Members range from acclaimed, internationally known Newfoundland and Labrador authors to emerging writers wishing to take their first steps towards publication.

Members are writers working in all genres–fiction, non-fiction, poetry, academia, drama, and journalism–and living on every part of the island, in Labrador, and outside the province.

2 For 1 Discount

As of Apr 1st, 2006, WANL offers a one-time 50 per cent reduction in the membership fee to any current Regular member who brings in a new Regular member, as well as a 50 per cent reduction for that new member!

The 2 For 1 Discount promotion applies to Regular memberships only.
