Born in Long Pond, Manuels (now C.B.S.), Enos Watts was an administrator and teacher for more than 20 years. An innovator of
curriculum development, he served on the NL Committee of the Canada Studies Foundation, co-authoring a number of texts.
His poems have appeared in such periodicals as The Antigonish Review, The Canadian Author, Waves, Event, CV II, The Quarterly, TickleAce, Green's Magazine, and The Pottersfield Portfolio. His work has been published in local, regional, national, and international anthologies, most recently in The Backyards of Heaven, However the Winds Blow, and The Echoing Years, which reflect the NL-Irish connection. His third poetry collection, Spaces Between the Trees (Pennywell Books, 2005), was shortlisted for the 2006 Winterset Award and longlisted for the RE-LIT award. He has participated in public readings, published book reviews, and edited numerous manuscripts during the past 35 years. More recently, he edited a collection of poems, As Seen Through Glass, for Ray Brooks (self-published with Harry Cuff, 2004) and an autobiography, After the Fall, by Henry Cullihall (Novalis, 2005). He continues to write poetry and will publish a Selected or New and Selected in the not-too-distant future. He resides in St. John's with his wife, Golda, and daughter, Jade. Writing servicesPublic readingsEditing of poetry, the novel and short fiction When Canadians were endeavouring to have more home-created literary content in schools and universities, the Canada Studies Foundation (privately funded) spearheaded the movement, whose most prominent members were Mel Hurtig (western publishing tycoon), Dr. Jim Lasker, and then-cabinet minister Walter Gordon. Each province was represented by a committee. Watts co-authored a number of pilot texts for our provincial group. Thus as a school administrator and teacher, together with his work in curriculum research and development in the C.S.F, Watts has skills to offer both schools and publishers. His interests include music, reading poetry, fiction, philosophy, following geo-political affairs, and a host of others.
