Her novel, Annabel, comes out with House of Anansi in June 2010. Annabel tells of a child who was born beyond gender in a hyper-male hunting culture in the 1960s. Surgically altered at birth and given the name Wayne, the child followed his father along the brutal trapline, not knowing why he longed for beauty, or why his most beloved childhood friend was a girl who wanted to grow up to be an opera singer. Why couldn't he be like the other boys? Why was his imagination completely different? The answer was a secret, but it was a secret his body knew, and that body would tell him when the time came. Annabel is a tender story of loneliness and exile, and the body's insistence on coming home. Winter lives in Montreal with her husband and daughters.
