The Historic Sites Association & the Writers' Alliance of Newfoundland and Labrador Announce the Winner of the 2006 Heritage and History Award

Michael Crummey is the winner of this year's Heritage and History Award for his book, The Wreckage, from Doubleday Canada. The announcement was made Monday night by Bruce Peckford, chair of the Historic Sites Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, at the LSPU Hall. Mr. Crummey, along with the other shortlisted authors, presented a reading from his work. The award is sponsored by the Historic Sites Association and is given to a work of fiction, non-fiction, poetry or children's literature that best exemplifies excellence in the interpretation of the history and heritage of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Other shortlisted authors:

  • Harold Davis for The Starrigans of Little Brook Bottom, Creative Book Publishing
  • Leo Furey for The Long Run, Key Porter Books
  • Nellie Strowbridge for Far From Home, Flanker Press
This year's judges were Alison Dyer, Michelle Butler Hallett, and Karen Bennett.
